Explaining what happened, he said: “My ticket runs for seven days but so I don’t miss a draw, sometimes there’s a crossover between the old ticket and the new ticket. That’s what did it for me last night.”
The lucky winner had purchased his tickets online and was busy at work when he was called by lottery operator The Lott to inform him that he had won. “I checked my ticket this morning around 5.30 a.m. and it came up that I’d won AU$400. I thought, ‘this is brilliant’. I had no idea I’d won Division 1 twice. I thought you were calling me about my AU$400 win! If I knew I’d won Division 1 twice, I wouldn’t have come into work today.”
Gold Coast Winner
A woman from the Gold Coast revealed that she would be sharing her windfall with her father, after becoming a millionaire for life with a Quick Pick ticket she had purchased online. She said: “This is the only ticket that I purchase on repeat, and I’ve always said to my dad that I’d transfer half of the money to him every month if I’d won to help him out. I’ll be doing exactly that with the prize!”
The lucky lady, who decided to keep her identity private, was so surprised to be told that she had won that it actually made her feel light-headed. “I’m feeling dizzy – I need to lie down,” she said, adding that she could not wait to celebrate with her family.
Student Set for Life
Set for Life is aimed squarely at younger players, and a man in his 20s was left feeling very grateful when a last-minute decision saw him bank the top prize. The university student, from Campbellfield in Melbourne, played just before the ticket cut-off time and switched to a Quick Pick because his usual number had not been bringing him much luck.
Having checked the results before bed and found that he had won, he was left to contemplate what the future might hold. “I haven’t thought of any immediate plans just yet but I’m thinking I might invest the prize. I’m also studying my master’s degree and will need to pay off my student loans,” said the man, who added that he might buy a house, go on holiday and buy a new car.
NSW Grandmother Grabs Glory
Two years after winning the game’s second prize – AU$5,000 a month for one year – a grandmother from Kingsgrove went one better and matched all the numbers in this draw. She said she had a ‘weird feeling’ and decided to ‘trust the universe’ rather than play her usual numbers, with the Quick Pick ticket going on to make her rich beyond her wildest dreams.
“I still have my last Set for Life prize of $60,000 all saved up because I wanted to be responsible,” said the winner, who now planned to retire and fulfil some of her dreams. Those dreams included travelling the world. She said: “I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland and even Bora Bora.”
