Daily Grand FAQs

If you’re keen to find out more about any aspect of Daily Grand, take a look through this list of frequently asked questions. You’ll learn about draw details, prize information and claiming procedures.

When are Daily Grand draws?

Daily Grand draws take place on Monday and Thursday evenings. Ticket sales close at 10:30 p.m. ET (9:30 p.m. CT, 8:30 p.m. MT, 7:30 p.m. PT), with draws held shortly afterwards.

How do I play?

Start by selecting five numbers between 1 and 49, plus a Grand Number from 1 to 7. Go to the How to Play page for a full guide.

What is the Grand Number?

The Grand Number is the sixth and final number in the draw. It is selected from a different set to the five main numbers, so it is possible the Grand Number could be the same as one of the main numbers.

You are guaranteed to win a prize if you match the Grand Number on your ticket to the Grand Number that is drawn, even if you don’t match any of the main numbers. However, the Grand Number cannot be used in place of one of the main numbers to win a prize, or vice versa.

How old do I have to be to play?

In most parts of Canada the minimum age to buy a lottery ticket is 18. However, in British Columbia or Atlantic Canada, you must be at least 19.

How much does it cost to play?

Daily Grand costs CA$3 per play.

What prizes can I win?

There are lots of prizes you can win in Daily Grand, ranging from a free ticket to a jackpot that is worth CA$1,000 a day for life. Go to the Odds and Prizes page to see all the different ways to win.

Is there a cash option?

Yes. You can take a lump sum of CA$7 million if you would prefer a one-off payment to an annuity for life.

What are the odds of winning?

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 13,348,188, but the overall odds of getting a prize are 1 in 6.8.

What happens if nobody wins the jackpot? Does it roll over?

No. The prizes all stay the same in every draw. There are no rollovers in Daily Grand.

Is the prize shared if there are multiple winners?

Yes. If there is more than one winner of the jackpot, the cash option of $7 million is split between them. The same happens with the second prize, where there is a cash option of CA$500,000.

What does ‘for life’ really mean? Is there a set period for paying out the top prizes?

The term ‘for life’ really does mean ‘for life’. The payouts will continue for as long as you live, or for a minimum of 20 years. If a Daily Grand winner dies before 20 years have passed, the rest of the money goes to their family.

How do I claim prizes?

You can claim prizes from retailers, by post or from your lottery operator’s claim center, depending on how much you win. See the Claiming Prizes page for more information.
