How to Play Millionaire for Life in Kentucky
Whether you’re playing online or in-store, you can play Millionaire for Life in Kentucky by following the steps below:
- Choose five main numbers from 1 to 58, plus a Millionaire Ball from 1 to 5. Select the Quick Pick option for a random set
- Decide how many consecutive drawings to play, up to a maximum of 21
- Purchase your tickets before sales close at 10:15 PM ET (9:15 PM CT). It costs $5 per play.
The Kentucky Lottery occasionally offers more chances to win. For example, when the game launched, you would receive a $2 Bonus every time you spent more time on millionaire for Life tickets online in a single transaction. This would be valid on Instant Play game purchases.
Millionaire for Life drawings take place at 11:15 PM ET (10:15 PM ET). To win the jackpot, you must match all five main numbers and the Millionaire Ball. If you match fewer numbers, there are still eight other ways to win prizes. Go to the Odds and Prizes page to see all the different categories.
How to Claim Prizes
If you win a prize on Millionaire for Life, the next step is to claim your money. Payouts can only be redeemed in the same state as where the original ticket was purchased, so the guide below only applies to Kentucky. If you win outside of KY, check out the relevant state section.
- Prizes up to $600 - You may claim prizes of this value at any KY Lottery retailer, or by mail. If you play online, prizes up to $600 will be directly deposited into your account.
- Prizes over $600 - Claim by mail, an Authorized Cashing Agent or Super Cashing Agent (select retailers who are allowed to cash tickets up to $5,000), or from the Kentucky Lottery Headquarters in Louisville.
If you’re claiming by mail, you’ll need to provide a completed claim form and a copy of valid photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport, alongside your winning ticket. The address for mail-in claims is shown below:
Claims Department
1011 W Main St.
Louisville, KY 40202
How long do I have to claim a prize if I win?
All Kentucky Lottery prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the draw date, whether it is the jackpot or the minimum $8 payout.
Will taxes be withheld on my prize?
Lottery winnings are treated as income in Kentucky, so state tax of up to 5 percent is withheld on prizes over $5,000. Federal taxes of 24 percent are also withheld on prizes over $5,000.
Can I stay anonymous if I win?
It is unlikely that you would be able to stay anonymous in the event of a big win. The Kentucky Lottery is legally obligated to share winner information as it is a state subject to open records laws. This means that if someone files a request to find out a winner’s key details (name, city, prize amount), the KY Lottery must disclose their identity.
Kentucky 'for Life' History
Prior to the launch of Millionaire for Life in February 2026, Kentucky had participated in Lucky for Life from March 22, 2015. The state enjoyed numerous big wins in the second tier, including Billy Glynn of Lexington. He had played the same numbers since 2015, and his persistence paid off when he landed $25,000 a year for life in November 2024.
‘For Life’ games are an important part of the KL Lottery’s operation. Around 20 percent of every ticket sale goes to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, providing funding for college scholarship and grant programs. For Millionaire for Life, this works out at $1 for every ticket.
