How to Play Millionaire for Life in Maine
Millionaire for Life requires you to select a total of six numbers – five from a range of 1 to 58, plus one Millionaire Ball from a separate set of 1 to 5. Get an E-Z Pick if you’d prefer a random selection. Here are some other rules to know when you play in Maine:
- The minimum age to purchase tickets is 18
- You may play the same numbers for up to 30 consecutive drawings
- The cut-off time for ticket sales is 10:15 PM ET, which is one hour before the drawing takes place
You can either fill out a play slip, use the Lottery’s Self-Service vending machine if available or create an E-Play slip using the Maine Lottery app.
You only need to match two numbers (two main numbers, or one main number and the Millionaire Ball) out of six to get a prize. The value of payouts increases as you match more, right up to the jackpot of $1 million a year for life if you match all six. See the Odds and Prizes page for all the ways to win.
How to Claim Prizes
Learn how to claim prizes in Maine, depending on the value of your win. The rules for claiming may be different if you buy your ticket in another state.

- Prizes over $600 – You’ll need to provide a claim form and a valid form of government-issued identification (such as your passport or driver’s license) for any prize above $600. You may claim by mail, although it is strongly advised that you track it using certified or express mail. Alternatively, visit the Maine Lottery office in Augusta in person.
The address for claiming a prize in person from the lottery office is as follows:
Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations
19 Union St

Augusta, ME 04330
If you’re claiming by mail, send your winning ticket and supporting documentation to the following address:
Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations
8 State House Station
Augusta, ME 04333-0008
Claim Period
You have a year from the date of the draw to come forward and claim any prizes you win on Millionaire for Life in Maine.
Taxes
Maine has one of the larger tax rates on lottery winnings in the U.S., with 7.15 percent withheld on prizes above $5,000. This state tax is in addition to 24 percent in federal tax.
Anonymity
The Maine Lottery does disclose who won its biggest prizes, but you may claim through a legal trust to keep your name hidden. This way, the ME Lottery will only release the name of the trust.
Maine 'for Life' History
Lucky for Life ran from March 2012 until February 2026 in Maine, and produced some of the state’s biggest-ever lottery payouts. Gloria Black, from Eddington, won the game’s top prize in May 2025 with a ticket she had purchased from Paradis Shop ‘n Save in Brewer. Rather than take the annuity option of $1,000 a day for life, she plumped for the lump sum of $5.75 million.
When Lucky for Life and Cash4Life were scrapped to make room for Millionaire for Life, Maine Lottery officials were delighted to sign up to the new game. Michael Boardman, Deputy Director of the ME Lottery, said: “We are excited to bring this premier 'for-life' prizing opportunity to Maine Lottery players, who will have the chance to win $1 million every year for the rest of their life. This game is designed to live up to its name."
