How to Claim Prizes
Prize-claiming processes differ depending on how much you win. As a general rule, any prize of $600.01 or more requires a claim form, regardless of whether it is claimed at a retailer (which can only pay up to $2,500) or by mail. Here is a quick guide:
- Up to $2,500: Claim prizes of this kind at a licensed PA lottery retailer. Retailers tend to pay them directly in cash provided they have the funds available. Prizes of $600.01 and more require winners to complete a claim form.
- Over $2,500: These prizes cannot be paid by retailers. You must head to a Lottery Area Office to do this or claim by mail. Send the signed ticket and completed claim form to the Pennsylvania Lottery Claims Department in Harrisburg (address below).
- Jackpots: The two jackpots must be claimed in person at the Lottery Headquarters in Middletown. 1200 Fulling Mill Rd #1, Middletown, PA 17057, United States.
Claiming by Mail
To claim by mail, send the relevant winning ticket and ID to:
Pennsylvania Lottery
ATTN: CLAIMS
PO BOX 8671
Harrisburg, PA 17105-8671
Claim Period
You have one year after the date of the drawing to claim your prizes. After this time has passed, tickets expire and prizes can no longer be redeemed.
Taxes
Lottery prizes won in Pennsylvania count as taxable income on a federal and state level. If your winnings amount to $600.01 or more, you must complete a W-2G form to report winnings and submit them with tax returns. The state withholds the highest percentage of taxes for prizes over $5,000.
Anonymity
There is some anonymity in Pennsylvania. In late 2025, Bill 73 was passed allowing winners of $100,000 or more to remain confidential if they choose. However, anonymity is largely not permitted in many cases. This is to assure the public that the lottery is genuine and that the winners are real people. That said, there is a limit to what information can be disclosed.
Cash Lump Sum Option
As well as the ‘for life’ annuity, there is also a cash lump sum option. For Match 5 plus the Millionaire Ball, you can opt for an $18 million cash lump sum instead of the $1 million a year for life annuity. For the Match 5 win, you can choose a $2.2 million cash lump sum instead of the $100,000 for life annuity.
Pennsylvania 'for Life' History
Pennsylvania Millionaire for Life was launched in early 2026 as an exciting rebrand of the long running Cash4Life. It was intended to encourage younger lottery players to take part in the draw game with larger jackpots. Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko emphasized the new game’s life-changing opportunities and support of local programs. The game is now available across 10,000 retailers in the Keystone State and provides a ‘new era of winner excitement’.
